e-Learning for AAA screeners and clinical skills trainers updated

Posted by: Tsitsi Muchayingeyi, Posted on: 24 May 2019 - Categories: NHS Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme
Slide from new AAA screening elearning units headed 'Unit 5: principles of ultrasound for AAA screening'. Sub-heading reads 'Higher frequency = better resolution. Main text reads: 'The shorter the wave length, the better the resolution. Always start on the highest reasonable frequency to provider the best image resolution possible. Higher frequency leads to more attenuation of the sound beam which leads to loss of signal at depth and therefore the image resolution of deeper structures is poorer. There is always constant compromise between depth and image resolution so you need to select your transducer frequency carefully. On modern machines, this is usually preset and should be adjusted as required for each man. Below this is an image of a man with a speech bubble that reads: 'Why is this important? As the aorta can lie deep within the abdomen, you may need to reduce the frequency to obtain a good image. This will have an impact on the resolution of the image.'

We have refreshed and updated the 2 national e-learning units for screeners in the NHS AAA Screening Programme.
