The NHS Diabetic Eye Screening (DES) Programme helps prevent sight loss in people with diabetes. Screening can detect diabetic retinopathy early, when treatment is effective at reducing or preventing damage from the condition.

Screening key performance indicators: quarter 4 2016 to 2017 data published

We’ve now published the screening key performance indicator (KPI) data for the fourth quarter of 2016 to 2017 (Q4, January to March 2017). The KPIs are used to measure how NHS screening programmes are performing and aim to give a high level overview of programme quality.

2017 to 2018 screening service specifications: the main changes

NHS England has published the 2017-18 service specifications for all 11 NHS Screening Programmes. The specifications accompany the 2017-18 agreement that outlines how NHS England commissions certain public health services under section 7A of the National Health Service Act 2006.

More than 40 people attended a regional diabetic eye screening (DES) networking day organised by the Midlands and East Screening QA Service (SQAS) team. Delegates included programme managers, clinicians, senior screeners, senior graders and public health commissioners.
