Easy read versions of AAA and diabetic eye screening letter templates now available

AAA and DES easy guides and easy read invitation letter templates laid out on a table.
Screening providers can adapt the easy read letter templates to send to people who need information in this format along with copies of the screening easy guides

We have published easy read versions of national screening invitation letter templates for the NHS-led abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) screening and diabetic eye screening (DES) programmes.

As part of PHE’s commitment to providing information in an accessible format and reducing inequalities, we need to make sure people with learning disabilities can:

  • receive information in the format they need
  • understand what they are being offered so they can make an informed choice about screening

We consulted people with learning disabilities while we were developing the letter templates and incorporated their feedback into the final versions.

The templates use clear, simple sentences with a relevant image to illustrate each point.

Screening providers should use these templates, rather than the standard national letter template, if they know they are inviting someone who has a learning disability or would benefit from information in easy read format.

Where to find the templates

The AAA screening easy read invitation letter template and diabetic eye screening easy read invitation letter template are available to download from GOV.UK.
