Screening e-learning: 3 months on from our big move

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: General information

On 1 April 2017, e-learning for the NHS Screening Programmes moved to e-Learning for Healthcare (e-LfH). This move, which was a big job, involved us asking you to complete any modules remaining on the old website and signing up for e-LfH.

The whole process has been a big success and 3 months later it’s worth having a look at some of the numbers and what people have really liked.

Enrolments

More than 17,000 people are now enrolled on at least one of our modules on e-LfH. As the year progresses we expect many more to sign up to ensure they continue to develop their skills and keep up to date with current practices and policies.

Most popular module

First of all, I’d like to say that all of our modules are extremely valuable. It isn’t a contest when it comes to professional development. We want only the best for all screening staff and e-learning continues to work as a great support to the face-to-face and other forms of training available.

However, in the interests of keeping this blog interesting, in the first 3 months 3,204 people signed up for the Antenatal and Newborn (ANNB) screening e-learning module, which was also the most visited module on the old website.

Very good, clear and accessible information.

Of course, you can read about all the screening modules available on e-LfH.

Videos

A single set of text-only slides doesn’t really cut it when it comes to learning online. Everyone learns in a different way and video is one of the most powerful methods to pick up new skills or refresh those you already have.

Our videos have had more than 25,000 views since April, and are showing no signs of slowing down. Hours are spent writing scripts and putting together these videos. Their popularity shows they are a useful tool, justifying the efforts of all those involved.

The modules were very easy to navigate through and were not too long so they did not become dull. The video clips were also helpful.

Comments and queries

Since moving to the new platform we have followed up on the comments our users have been leaving at the end of a module.

If you do complete a screening e-learning, it’s well worth completing the survey at the end. We are continually evolving our content with input from all of you as well as subject matter experts.

Of course, some of the comments and queries we’ve had were well anticipated. So, remember, we’ve already written some tips if you are having trouble:

A significant number of modules on e-LfH are now available for staff to access via esr, unfortunately this doesn't currently include the screening modules.
Having them available on esr would improve uptake, monitoring and raise the profile of the screening eLearning modules, are there plans for this to happen?

      Dear Carla,
Thank you for getting in touch with us concerning the availability of screening e-learning through ESR. We are keen that as many people as possible use our e-leaning modules. We carefully track use against expected use by target groups. This information is vital so that we can continually improve the modules every year and make sure everyone involved in screening is accessing relevant e-learning.
We have discussed with ESR the possibility of using their system. Unfortunately, ESR will not currently provide us with the numbers and professions of learners using our modules when accessed through ESR. We are in continuing discussions with them as to how we might overcome this obstacle and enable access through ESR.
